Mexico President Sheinbaum and State Governors Review IMSS‑Bienestar Progress

President Claudia Sheinbaum convened a meeting in Mexico City with governors of the 24 states that have adopted the IMSS‑Bienestar program, including Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier. The gathering evaluated advances in consolidating the public health system, covering hospital operations, medication supplies and the strengthening of medical personnel to ensure universal, free care.

Sheinbaum also met with Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo to examine specific strategic projects. The state reports more than 1.5 million beneficiaries served through 284 health units, a budget exceeding 7.1 billion pesos, and over 10,300 health workers. Highlighted initiatives include the new Miguel Alemán Community Hospital, upgrades to the Río Sonora Regional Hospital, a comprehensive mental‑health unit, rehabilitation of the IMSS Bienestar Children’s Hospital, and expansion of the State Oncology Center, alongside telemedicine and a drug‑supply strategy maintaining over 90 % stock levels.
