Mexico President Sheinbaum calls on US to stop gun flow to Mexican cartels
President Claudia Sheinbaum told the United States it must "do its job" to combat organized crime, urging stronger action against the trafficking of weapons, drug‑distribution networks and money‑laundering operations that affect both sides of the border. She emphasized that the fight against crime cannot fall solely on Mexico.
Sheinbaum referenced a recent seizure by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Nogales, Arizona, where 43,000 cartridges destined for Mexico were confiscated, describing it as a positive example of cooperation. She urged Washington to also target criminal organizations operating within the United States.
The Mexican leader said she will ask her security cabinet to include data on U.S. arms interceptions in future reports, seeking greater transparency on the flow of ammunition into Mexico.
