Mexico promotes water conservation through childhood education

Authorities in Mexico are promoting water conservation awareness by targeting children through educational initiatives and family involvement.

In Temixco, Morelos, preschool students at the Enrique Rebsamen Kindergarten participated in workshops designed to teach the water cycle and the importance of protecting the Río Apatlaco. Using interactive games like “Serpientes y Escaleras del Agua,” the program aims to instill responsible consumption habits from an early age. The initiative, supported by the municipal government and IEBEM, includes distributing educational materials to help students share conservation lessons with their families.

Similarly, in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, COMAPA manager Fernando García Fuentes has called on families to involve children in water-saving practices. He emphasized that teaching children to avoid waste—such as closing taps while brushing teeth or repairing leaks—creates lifelong habits. By educating minors at home, officials hope to reduce water waste during periods of high demand or scarcity.
