Mexico protests intensify over missing persons in Hidalgo and Guanajuato

Families of two missing women in Mexico have held public actions to demand better searches and justice. In Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo, relatives of 18‑year‑old Yanely Tamar Torres Valencia marched, displaying her photo and description after she vanished on 26 June in Tepeapulco. They urged authorities to keep the case active and asked citizens to call a confidential tip line.

In Villagrán, Guanajuato, relatives and friends gathered for a funeral after Erika González Ortega, reported missing on 13 April, was found dead in May. The service was attended by the Salmantinos Unidos Buscando Desaparecidos collective, which highlighted the region’s broader disappearance crisis, citing more than 300 missing‑person records. A priest comforted mourners, saying, "We all feel the pain of losing a loved one."

Both events underscore growing public frustration with the handling of disappearances across Mexico.
