Mexico public health system faces rising out-of-pocket costs

The public health system in Mexico is facing a significant crisis as the promise of universal healthcare remains unfulfilled. According to data from the organization México Evalúa, the deterioration of public services has forced millions of families to cover medical costs using their own resources.

Recent analysis shows that out-of-pocket health expenditures have increased by 41 percent, rising from 1,135 pesos per person quarterly to 1,605 pesos. This shift places a heavy financial burden on households for consultations, medications, clinical studies, and hospitalizations due to the insufficiency of the state apparatus. The current situation impacts more than 40 million Mexicans who lack effective access to healthcare services.
