Mexico-Puebla highway collision leaves two dead
A multi-vehicle accident on the Mexico-Puebla highway near the San Marcos toll booth resulted in at least two deaths and several injuries. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a tractor-trailer carrying cement overturned, reportedly due to brake failure. The heavy vehicle struck the containment wall and invaded the opposite lane, causing a chain reaction that involved at least six additional vehicles.
Emergency services reported that the two occupants of the tractor-trailer died at the scene. While initial reports suggested as many as 33 people were injured, official confirmation on the severity of all victims is still pending. The collision caused significant traffic disruptions, with Caminos y Puentes Federales (CAPUFE) reporting closures in both directions and advising motorists to use alternate routes such as the free federal highway toward Puebla.
Authorities and emergency crews worked to clear the roadway, which was covered in spilled cement spanning approximately 200 meters. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
