Mexico-Querétaro Train project sparks environmental and political debate
Citizens and political figures are calling for the protection of urban trees along the route of the Mexico-Querétaro passenger train project. Activists have issued a statement urging political parties not to use the environmental management of the railway for electoral purposes, noting that the issue has become a subject of debate between the National Action Party (PAN) and the federal government.
In Querétaro, Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) has requested that the state government declare the Alcanfores, Las Hadas, and El Tepetate sectors as natural heritage. This proposal aims to protect the urban ecosystem and green infrastructure corridor from the impact of the construction. Representatives expressed concern over a lack of transparency regarding the total number of trees to be removed and called for a census of the vegetation mass to ensure the project includes adequate conservation and restoration measures.
