Mexico ranks as ninth largest global honey exporter

Mexico has established itself as the ninth largest honey exporter globally, holding a 3.8% share of the international market. According to the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), Mexican honey exports rose from 20,000 tons in 2024 to 26,000 tons in 2025.

Between 2021 and 2025, the country exported an annual average of 27,200 tons, valued at approximately $94 million. In 2025, products reached consumers in 30 countries, with Germany and the United States accounting for over 63% of the total export value. Other significant markets include the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, and Poland.

National production also saw growth, reaching 60,297 tons in 2025, a 5% increase from 2024. Yucatán remains the leading producer, followed by Chiapas, Jalisco, Campeche, and Veracruz. The country currently maintains over 2.2 million honeybee colonies and 6,775 stingless bee colonies, supporting thousands of families and vital ecosystem services.
