Mexico repatriates 271,000 nationals from the United States since January 2025
Mexico has repatriated 271,193 nationals from the United States between January 20, 2025, and August 13, 2026. According to Sergio Salomón Céspedes, director of the National Institute of Migration (INM), 171,508 individuals returned via land, while 99,685 arrived through 816 flights across 10 airports.
To support these citizens, the Mexican government has implemented the 'México Te Abraza' strategy. This program, which operates 24/7 across 14 states and involves 34 federal agencies, has provided over 1.56 million services. These services include more than 453,000 hot meals, 200,105 transfers to home communities, and 180,042 'Tarjeta Bienestar Paisano' cards to assist with travel costs. Additionally, the program has facilitated over 98,600 affiliations with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and issued more than 138,500 identity documents such as CURP and birth certificates.
The highest numbers of repatriated individuals originate from states including Chiapas, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Puebla, and the State of Mexico. The government emphasizes a policy of providing dignified and human treatment to ensure successful reintegration into their home communities.
