Mexico records historic foreign direct investment in early 2026
Mexico has recorded a historic level of foreign direct investment (FDI), capturing approximately $34.968 billion during the first half of 2026. This figure represents the highest level for a similar period on record. The country maintained its position among the top ten global recipients of foreign investment throughout 2025, highlighting its strategic role in North American production chains.
While capital inflows remain high, economic reports indicate that the primary challenge is converting this investment into new productive projects. Recent progress includes the implementation of the 'Plan México' and the opening of 25 out of 100 planned industrial parks. Additionally, a 'Single Window' system has enabled the approval of projects worth $3.76 billion in less than 60 days.
To sustain this momentum, experts suggest that Mexico must address needs regarding infrastructure, regulatory efficiency, and legal certainty. Ongoing debates regarding regulatory guidelines and reforms in strategic sectors remain critical factors for investor confidence.
