Mexico records surge in dengue cases with seven deaths, Sinaloa leads severe cases

As of 13 July 2026, Mexico's federal health ministry reported 7 confirmed dengue deaths and 126 severe dengue cases. In addition, there are 1,648 cases showing warning signs and 1,400 non‑severe cases.

The five states with the highest total case counts are Sonora (898), Veracruz (499), Tabasco (440), Sinaloa (439) and Baja California Sur (178). For severe dengue, Sinaloa tops the list with 30 cases, followed by Veracruz and Sonora with 13 each.

Dengue is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms include fever, headache behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, skin rash, nausea and vomiting, and can progress to shock or organ failure in severe forms. Authorities advise residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by keeping yards clean, covering water containers, discarding unused items that can hold water, and removing standing water from tires and other objects.
