Mexico regulator sets deadline for phone registration, auto‑links postpaid lines

Mexico’s deadline for registering cellular lines is June 30, after which unregistered lines risk suspension. President Claudia Sheinbaum said more than half of owners have already complied and hinted the government may consider an extension, while warning that a mass disconnection could affect up to 100 million users.

The Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT) announced that postpaid lines are automatically linked to their owners, so those users do not need to submit additional data. Prepaid lines, however, must still complete the registration on the CRT portal to avoid service interruption. The measure is presented as a tool to combat telephone‑based extortion, fraud and kidnapping.
