Mexico reports 30% decrease in missing persons during Sheinbaum's second year

During the second year of President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, registered cases of missing persons in Mexico decreased by 30% compared to the first year. According to the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO), 8,217 people were reported missing between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026, compared to 11,677 during the first year.

Specialists warn that this decline may be attributed to a reduction in the number of official reports rather than a true decrease in incidents. Data shows a shift in victim profiles: while the most affected group in the first year was individuals aged 25 to 29, there has been a 5% increase in female victims aged 15 to 19. Mexico City recorded the highest number of cases, while the State of Mexico saw an 80% decrease in reports.
