Mexico reports 42 solar and 13 wind power projects in progress

Mexico’s Secretariat of Energy (Sener) has reported a portfolio of 42 photovoltaic solar plants with a combined capacity of 6,856.4 MW, alongside 13 wind power plants totaling 4,027.5 MW.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is currently involved in approximately 70% of the renewable projects in progress. Additionally, the government has identified 9,050 MW of generation capacity pending assignment, which includes 4,445 MW of photovoltaic technology, 2,159 MW of wind, 1,694 MW of cogeneration, and 752 MW from geothermal, concentrated solar, and hydrogen projects. Sener expects to complete these assignment processes by the end of 2026.

These updated figures represent a decrease from the data presented in June, when Sener reported 50 photovoltaic plants in progress (7,859 MW) and 17 wind plants (4,701 MW). The government estimates that between 2025 and 2030, investments totaling 794,109 million pesos will be allocated to these projects.
