Mexico reports high public official complaints and CJNG arrests

During the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico has recorded 31,191 complaints against public servants through July 2026. Data from the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública shows that July 2026 saw 1,703 complaints, nearly identical to the 1,696 reported in July 2025. While total annual complaints have trended downward from a peak of 21,883 in 2020, the concentration of cases remains high in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Nuevo León, which together account for 51% of all reports.

In Jalisco, federal forces conducted at least 20 major operations against criminal organizations between October 2024 and September 2026. These actions resulted in 77 arrests, including 44 individuals linked to the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). Notable captures include Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, identified as a financial operator for the CJNG. The operations also targeted transnational cocaine trafficking groups and logistics operators associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.
