Mexico Requires All Mobile Lines to be Registered by June 30

Mexico’s telecom regulator, the Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT), has mandated that every active mobile line be linked to an individual’s CURP or RFC before 30 June 2025. The rule, part of the 2025 telecommunications law, aims to eliminate anonymity that facilitates fraud and other crimes.

Two registration methods are authorized: an online process through a CRT‑hosted portal or a face‑to‑face procedure at the carrier’s service centre, with identity verification using official ID and biometric data. Failure to register will result in service suspension, allowing only emergency calls, calls to the provider’s customer‑care center, and calls to public‑service numbers.

As of the latest report, 58.9 million lines—about 40 percent of the estimated 144.5 million mobile lines in the country—have completed the registration. The deadline applies to both prepaid and postpaid lines, with exceptions for lines that cannot make voice calls or send SMS, government emergency numbers, and certain minor‑age accounts whose guardians must register on their behalf.
