Mexican reservoirs see rising water levels following recent rainfall

Recent rainfall in Mexico has significantly impacted reservoir levels across different regions. In Fresnillo, Zacatecas, the Leobardo Reynoso dam is currently at 43% capacity. While this is lower than levels at the start of the year, officials from SADER indicate the volume is sufficient to support the upcoming agricultural cycle and maintain existing crops. However, a pronounced canícula (midsummer drought) may result in lower yields for seasonal crops in northern Fresnillo.

In Guanajuato, the Mata and La Esperanza dams are nearing 100% capacity. The La Soledad dam has recovered to 36% following a previous leak. Juan Andrés Balderas, director of SIMAPAG, stated that these levels guarantee the municipal water supply for the remainder of the year. Authorities are currently rehabilitating water intake works at the La Soledad and La Esperanza dams to take advantage of the increased water levels.
