Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña barred from Senate leadership after gender‑based violence ruling

The Tribunal Electoral of Michoacán unanimously found Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña guilty of political gender‑based violence against Grecia Quiroz, the mayor of Uruapan. The court ordered Noroña to issue a public apology, attend a gender‑violence awareness course, and be entered into the National Registry of Persons Sanctioned for Political Gender Violence, along with comprehensive reparations for the complainant.

Noroña announced he will appeal the decision, describing it as a political campaign against him.
