Mexico sees decline in marriage and birth rates
Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) indicates a long-term decline in marriage and birth rates in Mexico. While there was a slight absolute increase in marriages in 2025 compared to 2024, the national rate has dropped significantly from 6.9 marriages per thousand inhabitants aged 18 and older in 2015 to 5.4 in 2024.
Demographic shifts also show that individuals are marrying at older ages, with the average age being 32.1 for women and 35 for men in 2024. Additionally, the country has seen a substantial decrease in births, falling from 2.35 million in 2015 to 1.68 million in the most recent reporting period.
