Violent attacks leave victims dead or injured in Chiapas, Veracruz and Michoacán
A machete attack in the ejido Álvaro Obregón of Tapachula, Chiapas on 22 May left a man with the amputation of his right hand and severe injuries; he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
In the municipality of Coatzintla, Veracruz, a 56‑year‑old farmer named Manuel was found dead with gunshot wounds on a field between González Ortega and María Contreras on 25 July. State and municipal police, the army and the navy opened a homicide investigation; no arrests have been made and the motive remains unknown.
In Tocumbo, Michoacán, residents blocked the Zamora‑Los Reyes highway demanding the whereabouts of 82‑year‑old Jesús Ramírez Pulido, missing since 25 July. The same day, a 38‑year‑old woman identified as Antonia N. was shot dead with three bullets to the head in the nearby community of Angahuan; police, the National Guard and paramedics responded to the scene.
