Mexico sees over half‑million youths rally for peace in national transformation day

More than 500,000 young people across Mexico took part in the Jornada Nacional de Tequios por la Transformación y Cortos por la Paz, a volunteer mobilisation organised by the Instituto Mexicano de la Juventud (IMJUVE). Participants cleaned parks, planted trees, repaired public spaces, organised sports matches, reading circles and filmed short videos promoting peace.

In the State of Mexico alone, over 32,000 youths were active in 73 municipalities, carrying out similar actions under the coordination of the Instituto Mexiquense de la Juventud (IMEJ). IMEJ director Sergio Jassiel Zamora López led efforts in Nezahualcóyotl and Chimalhuacán, joined by local officials such as mobility secretary Juan Hugo de la Rosa García. The event was presented as support for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s agenda to strengthen public spaces and community participation.

The nationwide day highlighted a broad commitment among Mexico’s younger generation to civic engagement and peace‑building.
