Coatepec illegal fuel storage seized in Veracruz
Federal forces seized an illegal hydrocarbon storage centre in Coatepec, Veracruz, and the Cabinet of Security clarified that the site is a storage centre, not a clandestine refinery. The property is under the custody of the National Guard while the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) conducts investigations as part of the government’s anti‑huachicol strategy.
President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated that Mexico has no clandestine refineries, only smaller processing or storage centres, a view echoed in multiple statements after recent seizures in Reynosa, Tamaulipas and Cadereyta, Nuevo León. The company operating the Coatepec site, Servicios Ecológicos EVKADY, denied any illicit refining activity and said it holds all required permits.
Other operations this month include the FGR opening a case after the National Guard seized about 2,300 litres of fuel and uncovered four illegal taps in Ayotlán, Jalisco, and Hidalgo authorities seizing roughly 80,000 litres of illegal fuel in Atotonilco de Tula, along with numerous tanks, trucks and drug‑related items.
