Mexico seizes illegal wildlife, including jaguar, tiger and lions, in San Luis Potosí raid

Federal authorities in Mexico seized five live wild animals and four taxidermied specimens during a search of a residence in Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, San Luis Potosí. The animals included an African lion pair, a six‑year‑old jaguar, a six‑year‑old Bengal tiger and a one‑year‑old coyote, all in apparent good health. Three full‑size taxidermies—a berber goat and two black bears—were also confiscated. The jaguar is listed as endangered under NOM‑059‑SEMARNAT‑2010; the jaguar and tiger are covered by Appendix I of CITES, while the lions fall under Appendix II. The Fiscalía General de la República opened a criminal investigation for violations of biodiversity laws, and PROFEPA secured the taxidermy and arranged the transfer of the live animals to authorized wildlife facilities in San Luis Potosí, Nuevo León and Hidalgo.
