Mexico seizes two Bengal tigers in Chihuahua raid

On May 21, the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) and the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) carried out a search at a residence in the municipality of Nonoava, Chihuahua. The operation resulted in the seizure of two adult Bengal tigers – a male and a female – which were in apparent good health but bore no identification marks.

The felines were transferred to a specialized wildlife‑handling facility in Chihuahua for care and further investigation. Authorities said no individuals were detained during the raid and that the probe will determine how the animals entered the property and who is responsible. The species is listed in Appendix I of CITES, granting it strict international protection.
