Chilean Senate approves modernization of Carabineros career system
The Chilean Senate has approved amendments to a bill aimed at modernizing the incentive system and career structure for Carabineros de Chile. The legislation, which is now ready to become law, seeks to enhance the institution's ability to respond to current security demands by improving professional training, entry standards, and promotion processes.
Key provisions include new economic incentives, such as a special risk bonus of up to 100% of the salary for officers participating in dangerous missions in high-risk zones. The bill also introduces performance-based incentives, bonuses for officers who continue serving after retirement, and improved remuneration for students in training. Additionally, the law establishes new entry modalities for individuals holding professional or technical degrees.
