Mexico Senate Commission meets with retired judges over unpaid pensions
The Senate Justice Commission, led by Senator Javier Corral Jurado, met with the Association of Retired Judges to address unpaid indemnifications and complementary pensions following the September 2024 judicial reform.
Representatives of the retired judges, including Association President Elba Sánchez Pozos, stated that approximately 200 former judicial officials are affected, with 80 seeking indemnification and 120 seeking complementary pensions. They argue that the Tenth Transitory Article of the reform guarantees payments equivalent to three months of integrated salary and 20 days of salary for each year of service for those who declined candidacies or were not re-elected.
Senator Corral committed to advocating for these payments by engaging with the Ministry of Finance and the Presidency to resolve the dispute. He noted that the issue stems from interpretations by the Judicial Administration Body regarding the constitutional reform's labor rights protections.
