Mexico Senate illuminates facilities in red for World Heart Day
The Mexican Senate illuminated its facilities in red to commemorate World Heart Day on September 29. The initiative serves as a call to action regarding heart disease, which remains the leading cause of death in Mexico.
Senator Maki Ortiz Domínguez reported that nearly 200,000 people die annually from cardiac conditions in the country. She noted that risk factors such as obesity and overweight conditions significantly increase the risk of hypertension and high cholesterol.
José Manuel Cruz Castellanos, President of the Health Commission, stated that the Senate will advocate for all national hospitals to be equipped with hemodynamics clinics. Additionally, Senator Emmanuel Reyes Carmona emphasized the need to strengthen legislation to ensure public policies fulfill the constitutional right to health for all Mexican citizens.
