Mexico 2027 Budget discussion scheduled for November 9-13

Mexican legislators have outlined the schedule for the 2027 Federal Expenditure Budget (PEF) discussion, which is slated to take place in the Chamber of Deputies between November 9 and 13. Ricardo Monreal, president of the Political Coordination Board, noted that the discussion will only begin once the Senate approves the 2027 Revenue Law, the Income Tax Law, and the Federal Rights Law. Monreal warned that the budget has a very limited margin for reallocating funds because most resources are already earmarked for sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure, despite increasing demands from the agricultural and university sectors.

Regarding the 2027 economic package, Senator Ignacio Mier Velazco stated that the plan aims to provide economic certainty without introducing new taxes, projecting federal revenues of approximately 10.6 trillion pesos.

Separately, the federal government reported significant savings in medical procurement. Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, a health official, announced that new consolidated purchasing strategies and direct negotiations with manufacturers are expected to save nearly 70 billion pesos for the 2025-2028 period. Additionally, authorities are investigating a previous distribution contract in the State of Mexico that cost approximately 1.7 billion pesos between 2022 and 2023, which allegedly involved excessive costs and private management of public hospital pharmacies.
