Mexico shuts 22 venues and reinstates breath‑tester checks to curb alcohol‑related incidents

Mexican authorities ordered the closure of 22 establishments across several cities in the state of Chihuahua, including bars, liquor stores and event halls, for violations such as operating without permits, exceeding capacity, and failing to renew licensing. Six closures occurred in the city of Chihuahua, three in Aquiles Serdán, two in Delicias, and multiple others in Meoqui, Cuauhtémoc and Ciudad Juárez.

In the state of Veracruz, the government announced the reactivation of a mobile alcohol‑breath‑testing operation in Xalapa. Secretary of Government Ricardo Ahued Bardahuil said the measure, coordinated with the state security ministry and the Human Rights Commission, aims to reduce traffic accidents linked to alcohol consumption, especially on busy avenues such as Lázaro Cárdenas and among motorcyclists. The program, previously run on weekends, could resume within days.
