Argentina ruling coalition seeks Central Bank reform and tax amnesty
The ruling coalition in Argentina, comprising La Libertad Avanza, PRO, and the UCR, has requested a special session of the Chamber of Deputies for Wednesday, August 26. The primary objective is to advance the reform of the Central Bank (BCRA) Charter.
The proposed Central Bank reform seeks to establish the preservation of currency value as the entity's exclusive objective, replacing the five functions introduced in 2012. It also aims to prohibit the bank from financing fiscal deficits through monetary emission and requires a two-thirds majority in both chambers to remove the BCRA president.
Additionally, the session will address the Inocencia Fiscal II law, a tax amnesty initiative designed to encourage taxpayers to declare undeclared US$170 billion. The project proposes removing annual income and wealth caps for the simplified tax regime and reducing fines by 25% for individuals and SMEs. Other agenda items include a patent treaty agreement with the United States.
