Mexico spends 12 million pesos to upgrade Río Verde drain in Campeche

The Mexican government is allocating more than 12 million pesos to rehabilitate the Río Verde drainage system in the state of Campeche. The project will restore 16.88 km of the main channel, improving hydraulic capacity and flood‑risk management for the Río Verde temporal district. It targets protection of over 5,000 hectares of agricultural land where corn, sorghum, soy and pastures are cultivated, and will directly benefit about 100 families.

Work began on 24 June 2024 and is scheduled for completion in October 2026. The initiative is part of the broader Plan Campeche to strengthen hydro‑agricultural infrastructure and reduce inundation risk in productive zones of the municipality.

The investment follows earlier work that recovered roughly 16 km of the main drain last year, which had already aided dozens of producers and thousands of hectares of crops.
