Mexico State Electoral Institute boosts budget for 2027 local elections

The General Council of the Instituto Electoral del Estado de México (IEEM) approved a budget reallocation of 262,324,658 pesos to fund preparatory activities for the 2026‑2027 local election cycle, which will renew 75 state deputies and 1,216 municipal officials across 125 municipalities.

A subsequent session raised the institute’s total operating budget to roughly 997.7 billion pesos, with 735.2 billion allocated for regular activities and the additional 262.3 million dedicated to election preparation after recent electoral reforms postponed the judicial election to 2028.

The resources will cover the establishment and operation of 170 decentralized electoral offices, rental of premises, temporary staffing, procurement of furniture and work materials, and the development of an IT system for vote tabulation, in coordination with the National Electoral Institute. Council president Amalia Pulido Gómez highlighted the institute’s commitment to transparency, fiscal oversight and accountability.
