Peru reports over 80,000 dengue cases in 2026

Dengue fever cases in Peru have reached approximately 80,000 in 2026, representing a more than 100% increase compared to the roughly 35,000 cases recorded in 2025.

Yuri Alegre, a representative for the Ministry of Health, attributed the surge to persistent high temperatures and the absence of a distinct winter season. While the trend shifted later in the year, the northern regions and cities such as Lima, Piura, and La Libertad have been significantly affected.

Despite the current spike, officials noted that the figures remain below the peak levels seen during the 2023-2024 period.
