Mexico streamlines pension verification and launches universal health credential for seniors

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) announced that pensioners residing in Mexico no longer need to appear in person to obtain a survival certificate, provided their personal data is kept current. Those living abroad must continue to verify their status at the nearest consular office, or risk suspension of pension payments.

Separately, the federal government opened registration for the 2026 Universal Health Service credential. The program targets beneficiaries of the Bienestar pension for older adults and persons with permanent disabilities, allowing them to receive medical care at any public health centre. Registration runs from 27 May to 14 November 2026, with eligibility for adults 65 years and older and persons with permanent disability. Applicants must present official identification, proof of address, and contact details at one of the 2,136 service modules, and will receive a digital medical file linked to their new health card.
