Agricultural sectors in Latin America address trade and sanitary challenges

Various agricultural sectors across Latin America are addressing regulatory, trade, and sanitary challenges. In Argentina, the Sociedad Rural de Rosario is calling for the legislative elimination of export retentions to ensure economic stability and competitiveness.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Association of Agricultural Product Importers (ANIMPA) has requested government intervention to protect domestic rice production following the removal of special tariff regimes under the DR-CAFTA treaty, citing risks to food security.

In Mexico, authorities and academic sectors are collaborating to strengthen animal health, specifically targeting threats like the cattle screw worm to protect livestock productivity. Additionally, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) is utilizing science and innovation to address agricultural needs.

In Chile, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) is coordinating with fruit industry groups to prepare for the 2026-2027 season. Furthermore, a new joint sanitary inspection initiative between SAG and Argentina’s SENASA has been implemented at the Jama border crossing to facilitate tomato exports and provide alternative routes when other mountain passes are closed.
