Mexico Supreme Court to rule on IMSS retirees' retirement fund claims

Retired workers of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) – more than 300,000 individuals – have urged Mexico’s Supreme Court to protect the assets accumulated in their Retiro, Cesantía y Vejez (RCV) accounts. Mirna Cosio Hernández, a pension specialist and former IMSS employee, presented the case during a “Diálogos por la Justicia Abierta” session with Justice Minister Irving Espinoza Betanzos, arguing that the RCV resources constitute a patrimonial right derived from lifelong contributions and should be safeguarded under human‑rights and social‑security law. The pending amparo proceeding seeks a ruling that would reinforce legal certainty for retirees and their families, many of whom depend on these funds for financial stability.
