Mexico survey finds ATMs and public transport among most unsafe places

A recent INEGI safety survey (ENSU) shows that 60% of Mexicans feel insecure using public transport and banks. Automated teller machines located on streets are rated the most unsafe, with 69.1% of respondents fearing assaults, while public transport ranks second at 62.8%. Roads (56.1%) and banks (53.2%) follow. Perception varies by city: Irapuato and Culiacán report the highest levels of fear, whereas San Pedro Garza García in Nuevo León and the Benito Juárez borough of Mexico City record the lowest.

In a separate incident, a man armed with a knife robbed a convenience store in the Jarachina Sur neighborhood of Reynosa, Tamaulipas. He threatened the cashier, seized cash from the register and fled on foot. Authorities have released a description of the suspect and are seeking his capture.
