Mexico suspects arrested in quadruple homicide linked to Bitcoin robbery

Mexican authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with a quadruple homicide in Atizapán de Zaragoza, allegedly motivated by the search for a Bitcoin cold wallet believed to contain millions of dollars. The victims include Jonathan Meléndez, a keyboardist for the rock band Camilo Séptimo, his pregnant wife, their daughter, and a household employee.

Prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) indicated that one of the suspects may have used a professional business relationship with one of the victims to gain access to the family residence. The suspects face potential prison sentences ranging from 25 to 70 years per victim if convicted.

A judicial hearing is scheduled to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges. This incident highlights a rising trend of ‘wrench-style attacks,’ where violence or threats are used to coerce individuals into surrendering cryptocurrency assets.
