Mexico suspends school classes across multiple states due to tropical cyclones

Multiple Mexican states have suspended in-person classes due to the impact of tropical cyclones Simon and Isaias. The weather systems have brought risks of heavy rainfall, flooding, and high winds to various regions.

In Jalisco, the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) and state authorities suspended activities in 22 municipalities, including Puerto Vallarta, from October 9 through October 12. Guerrero has also implemented widespread suspensions across the Acapulco, Costa Grande, Costa Chica, Centro, and Montaña regions.

In Puebla, classes were suspended in 173 municipalities across the Sierra Norte, Sierra Nororiental, Sierra Negra, Valle de Serdán, and Mixteca regions, with many schools transitioning to remote learning. Michoacán reported suspensions in seven municipalities within the Sierra-Costa region, including Lázaro Cárdenas.

Additionally, authorities in Campeche and Yucatán have issued preventive measures for basic education due to the approaching storms. Authorities continue to monitor the erratically moving Hurricane Simon, which reached Category 1 status.
