Mexico tax authority dispels pension tax rumor for seniors

The Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) issued a statement that the social‑media claim of a new Income Tax (ISR) on pensions for older adults is completely false. No legal provision exists to charge ISR on pension income, and the current tax law already defines the exemptions.

Under article 93 of the ISR law, pensions up to 15 UMAs per day (about 53,493 pesos per month) are exempt, covering the majority of retirees. Article 90 also exempts benefits from the Pensión para el Bienestar de las Personas Adultas Mayores as non‑taxable income. SAT urged citizens to rely on official channels to avoid misinformation.
