Mexico to administer Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines
The Mexican government has announced the implementation of Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines for the 2026-2027 winter vaccination season. The vaccines will be stored in federal and state refrigerated warehouses.
According to the General Guidelines for the 2026-2027 winter campaign, Pfizer/BioNTech’s Comirnaty XFG vaccine is intended to prevent severe cases of Covid-19 in individuals aged 12 and older. Moderna’s Spikevax vaccine is designated for individuals aged 6 months and older.
The campaign includes primary vaccination for previously unvaccinated healthy children aged 6 to 59 months. Seasonal booster doses, consisting of a single dose each winter, are targeted at pregnant individuals, people aged 60 and older, healthcare personnel, and individuals aged 6 months to 59 years living with high-risk comorbidities.
Health guidelines also encourage simultaneous administration of Covid-19 and seasonal influenza vaccines, stating that evidence shows co-administration is safe and does not reduce the immunogenicity or safety of either vaccine.
