Mexico seeks Interpol reactivation of red notices for Gómez Mont and Álvarez Puga

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Interpol has removed the red notices against television presenter Inés Gómez Mont and her husband, businessman Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga. The couple faces active arrest warrants in Mexico for alleged involvement in organized crime, money laundering, and tax evasion.

Sheinbaum characterized the pair as “recognized factureros,” alleging they used a network of shell companies to divert approximately 3,000 million pesos through fraudulent invoicing to evade taxes. Álvarez Puga was previously detained in the United States and is considered a fugitive in Mexico.

The Mexican government intends to request a formal explanation from Interpol regarding the removal of the alerts and will seek to have them reactivated. Additionally, Sheinbaum called for judicial reciprocity from the United States and the Department of Justice, noting that Mexico has also requested the U.S. revoke the asylum granted to Ulises Bernabé, a former official linked to the Ayotzinapa investigation.
