Mexico to host centenary tribute concert for musical legends
The Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de México (SACM) has announced a commemorative concert titled ‘Inmortales: El Canto Eterno de México’ to celebrate the centenary of the births of three influential figures in Mexican popular music: José Alfredo Jiménez, Tomás Méndez, and Rubén Fuentes.
The event is scheduled for August 30, 2026, at the Centro Cultural Roberto Cantoral. The concert will feature performances by the Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, with special guests Rosy Arango and Luis Alfredo Jiménez. The program will honor the legacy of these composers, whose works in genres such as ranchera, bolero ranchero, huapango, and mariachi have become central to Mexico's cultural identity.
Hosted by actor and singer César Costa, the concert aims to celebrate the musical heritage of the three composers, whose iconic songs like ‘El Rey’, ‘Cucurrucucú Paloma’, and ‘La Bikina’ have achieved international recognition.
