Mexico and Ecuador launch major environmental cleanup initiatives

Various environmental initiatives are being launched across Mexico and Ecuador to address pollution and waste management.

In Mexico, the National Water Commission (Conagua) is organizing massive river cleaning operations as part of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s Commitment 92. These efforts include cleaning the Atoyac River in Puebla, the Pesquería River in Nuevo León, and the Nazas River in the Laguna region. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is hosting a collection event in San Quintín, Baja California, on September 23 to safely dispose of empty agrochemical containers. This program encourages the “wash, puncture, and deliver” protocol to reduce toxic residue by up to 99% and prevent soil and water contamination.

In Ecuador, the Ministry of Environment and Energy is coordinating a national campaign on September 19. More than 7,000 volunteers are expected to participate in cleaning 102 different points across the country, including beaches, rivers, and streams, to protect marine and coastal ecosystems.
