Mexico to host Original 2026 textile and craft fair at Los Pinos
The Mexican Secretariat of Culture has announced the upcoming Original 2026 Encuentro de Arte Textil, Decorativo y Utilitario, scheduled to take place from November 12 to 15 at the Complejo Cultural Los Pinos. The event will feature 580 master artisans representing 31 Mexican states, 127 collectives, and 36 different indigenous languages.
In addition to domestic participants, an International Pavilion will showcase 14 artisans from countries including Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Ghana, Norway, New Zealand, Paraguay, and Peru. The program includes over 80 activities, such as workshops, oral storytelling, four fashion runways, and 16 musical performances.
To prevent exploitation, the event will implement strict verification filters. Marina Núñez Bespalova, Undersecretary of Cultural Development, stated that the platform will not allow the sale of pieces that have not been properly paid to their creators. The organizers will work with artisan councils to verify community affiliations and ensure fair compensation for the time and effort required to produce original works.
