Mexico to host seminar on La Malinche volcano's cultural importance
The Mexican Secretariat of Culture, through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), will host a seminar dedicated to the study and reflection of the Matlalcueye volcano, also known as La Malinche. The volcano serves as a vital natural, historical, and social reference for the region.
Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel de Icaza emphasized the importance of recognizing the area as a living territory where nature, history, and community are inseparable. The seminar, titled ‘Matlalcueye: territory, biodiversity and memory’, aims to create an interdisciplinary space for dialogue between academic knowledge and local wisdom to promote the preservation of the National Park, which covers over 46,000 hectares.
