Mexico to release Ayotzinapa investigation report this week

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that a public report regarding the investigation into the Ayotzinapa case will be released this week. The announcement comes ahead of the 12th anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos rural normal school in Guerrero, which occurred in late September 2014.

Sheinbaum addressed allegations from the victims' families regarding a potential cover-up of the Mexican Army's involvement. She denied these claims, stating that the government is not protecting anyone and criticized criticisms based on what she termed 'fiction books.' She emphasized that the new report is built upon scientific data, evidence, and multiple testimonies rather than mere speculation.

The report, to be presented by the Specialized Prosecutor for the Iguala Case, will detail current lines of investigation, the status of detainees, and the evidence supporting the ongoing inquiry. Attorney General Ernestina Godoy confirmed the document is prepared for presentation alongside the Ministry of the Interior. Sheinbaum clarified that the release of this report does not signal the end of the investigation, which remains open as the government continues to seek the truth and the whereabouts of the students.
