Mexico to suspend mobile lines without mandatory registration after June 30

Mexico's telecom regulator, the Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT), confirmed that the deadline for linking mobile phone numbers to a CURP is June 30. Numbers that remain unregistered will be deactivated, preventing calls, SMS and mobile data; only emergency calls will remain possible. Users may later reactivate the same number by completing the registration, which requires the phone number, a government‑issued ID and the CURP.

By the end of May, about 52.4 million lines—roughly one‑third of all mobile numbers—had been registered. Experts warn that the abrupt suspension could disrupt banking OTPs, delivery apps and other digital services, and may spur a black‑market for unlinked lines. The CRT has stated there will be no extension to the June 30 deadline.
