Mexico to suspend unregistered mobile phones after July 2026 deadline

All active mobile lines in Mexico – prepaid, post‑paid, eSIM and corporate numbers – must be linked to a holder’s CURP and official ID by 30 June 2026. The registration, carried out through carriers’ apps, portals or in‑person offices, requires a government‑issued ID, CURP and a selfie for verification.

Lines that remain unregistered will be suspended on 1 July 2026. Users will lose the ability to make calls, send SMS, use data or recharge the account; only emergency calls to 911 and contact with the carrier will remain functional until the registration is completed. The measure, approved by the telecommunications regulator, aims to curb crime, fraud and extortion carried out via anonymous numbers. The Supreme Court blocked a prior proposal that required biometric data, but the new non‑biometric registration still applies nationwide.
