Mexico transport subsidies for seniors and students

Various transport initiatives in Mexico are providing significant discounts and free travel for specific demographics. In the State of Mexico, the government has allocated 771.30 million pesos to fund the Mexibús and Mexicable free transit program. This initiative primarily benefits senior citizens, people with disabilities, and children under five years old.

Data from the state Secretariat of Mobility indicates that between July 2024 and October 2026, the program facilitated over 76.72 million free trips and transfers. Senior citizens accounted for the largest portion of usage with 34.45 million trips. The program impacts several municipalities, including Ecatepec, Nezahualcóyotl, and Chimalhuacán.

Additionally, the bus company ADO offers 50% discounts through three main channels: senior citizens with an INAPAM credential, students during official SEP vacation periods, and through advance online purchases on participating routes. For seniors, an official ID or passport may be used if the INAPAM card is unavailable, though there is a limit of two discounted seats per bus.
